2016 BOOK DISTRIBUTION

   

RECORD NUMBER OF SPONSORS PARTICIPATE IN DELIVERY OF 25,000 BOOKS TO 11,367 CHILDREN AT 113 SCHOOLS

With record participation in the 2016 Books Distribution, more than 140 company sponsors and volunteers took part in the distribution that - due to an interval caused by Hurricane Matthew– lasted for 7 weeks. Distribution teams visited 113 schools in 13 parishes delivering Books4Kids Jamaica book bag to 11,367 Kindergarten children. 


AJAS Aviation Services, Jamaica
Barry Byrne, Norman Tomlinson, Howard Mitchell, Christopher Bond, Dunstan Pryce and Tasina Montique from AJAS Aviation Services participated in the book distribution to 489 five-year-old children at Montego Bay Infant School.























Azure TV, Malta
A special thank you to our long-term sponsors, Azure TV, who travelled all the way from the island country of Malta to partake in the distribution. Kirsti Newton, Glen Stacey and Martina Brtnicka from Azure TV visited 12 schools around the island, handing out books to 1,800 children during their five-day visit in Jamaica.

Billy Craig Insurance, Jamaica
Billy Craig’s team comprised William Craig, Andrene Williams, Rosheda Richards and Janice Sherwood from Billy Craig Insurance was part of the book distribution to 489 five-year-old children at Montego Bay Infant School.



Delta Air Lines
From the September book distribution to more than 500 four year old Kindergarten children at Montego Bay Infant School with long term sponsors Delta Air Lines. Station Manager for Jamaica Kevin Campbell was joined by team members Jonnoi Wallace, Vanessa Jones and Kaydean Wallace, Candis Craig from sponsors Billy Craig Insurance, Arlene White, Kathy Dear, Teresa McDonagh Mullett, Christopher Clarke, Frank Perolli, founder Bob Trotta and Ragni Trotta joined in the distribution. Bus and driver was sponsored by Jamaica Tours Ltd.



Garth Ramsay, Caribbean Immigration Services, Jamaica
Garth Ramsay from Caribbean Immigration Services did an outstanding job at the Montego Bay Infant Distribution to 489 children. A six-year sponsor, Garth Ramsay has been an important and generous contributor to the Books4Kids Jamaica program.



Golden Eye Hotel & Resorts
172 children at Race Course Early Childhood Institution and Cross Roads Basic School in Orocabessa, St. Mary, received their BrainQuest Workbooks, reading books and bags from Books4Kids Jamaica sponsors Jenny Wood, General Manager of Golden Eye Hotel & Resorts, Jenni Mills and Jonathan Gosse, Executive Director of the Orocabessa Foundation.



Grand Palladium Jamaica & Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa
Elisa Valero, Carolina Climent and Sherryleen Remekie-Reid from long-term sponsors Grand Palladiums took time to hand out bookbags to 311 children at Lucea Infant School and Sandy Bay Infant Schools. Grand Palladium has been an invaluable sponsor for the last five years, donating generously to the Online Charity Auction and helping to raise funds.



Half Moon Hotel
The sponsor team from Half Moon Hotel came out in force for the book distribution to 202 primary school children at Barrett Town Primary School and 43 Kindergarten at St. Augustine Kindergarten in Rose Hall, Montego Bay. The 7 strong team from Half Moon Hotel consisting of Shernette Crichton, Joan Coore, Sherine Blake, Conroy Thompson, Kameil Brown, Joseph Waite and Dionne Wolfe were joined by Claudette Coombs from Jamaica Customs Department, who deals with the clearing of the Brain Quest Workbooks through customs every single year. Personal Trainer Christopher Clarke also participated in the distribution. Bus and driver provided by Jamaica Tours Limited.



The Most Honorable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica
Prime Minister Andrew Holness merrily dispersed book bags to 38 pre-schoolers at Four Campbell's Academy in his West Central St. Andrew constituency. Prime Minister Holness was joined by Senator Councillor Delroy Williams, long-term charity sponsor and Goodwill Ambassador Alsion Roach, entrepreneur Omar Wilson and sponsor Max Earle. Prime Minister Holness commended The Palmyra Foundation’s contribution to the country’s youngest citizens through the Books4Kids Jamaica initiative.

Huawei Jamaica
First year sponsors Huawei Jamaica presented bags of reading and writing materials to children at Melrose Primary & Junior High School in Kingston together with the Books4Kids Jamaica team. Chrysta Walker, Marketing Manager for Huawei Technologies was thrilled with the Huawei team’s participation.



Island Entertainment Brands, Jamaica
Patrick Mullett from Island Entertainment Brands participated in the distribution of workbooks, reading books, crayons and pencils to 165 Kindergarten children at Falmouth Infant School and 215 children at Hague Infant School, alongside wife Teresa McDonagh Mullett, a three-year volunteer.



Jamaica Inn Hotel
260 Kindergarten children at Fern Grove Basic School in Ocho Rios received books and materials from the team at Jamaica Inn Hotel, who consisted of Emmanuella Owens, Evert Watson and Shawn Salmons.

We would literally get nowhere without the sponsorship of buses, cars and drivers from Jamaica Tours Ltd., who again sponsored the book distribution. Special thanks to Sport Sloley Jr. and the team from Jamaica Tours.



JetBlue
The JetBlue team consisting of Oral Walker, Marlon Wright, Carmelisa Grandison, Shenna Edwards joined Books4Kids Jamaica to distribute books at St. George”s Girls School in Kingston for the second year running. The JetBlue team delivered books to 147 Kindergarten girls in the Infant Department together with Latoya Harris and Alton Davis from the Early Childhood Liaison Office.



Jewels Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort
General Manager Scott Robbins and the resort team from Jewels Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort handpicked Runaway Bay Basic School and Fort George Primary & Infant School as the schools that they wanted to assist with the workbooks from Books4Kids Jamaica. The Jewel Team enthusiastically hand delivered the books to each child.


Dr. Peter Phillips, Member of Parliament
Dr. Peter Phillips, Member of Parliament for East Central St Andrew and local businessman Marvin Fisher joined Books4Kids Jamaica at Faith Tabernacle Basic School to distribute books to the children. Even though it was a dull rainy day, the spirit and enthusiasm of the children could not be dampened.



Alsion Roach, Sponsors and Goodwill Ambassador
Well done to our sponsor and Goodwill Ambassador Alsion Roach and Omar Wilson, who just did their first solo book distribution to 203 children in Redwood, St. Catherine. The dynamic duo participated in book distributions at 6 schools in Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine and handed out books to over 500 children.



RJR Communications Group
From book distribution to 215 Kindergarten children at the Citizens Advice Bureau/ RJR Basic School in Kingston. Sponsors handing out Workbooks, reading books, crayons and pencils to the pre-school children were Mr. Clarence Clarke, President of the Citizens Advice Bureau, Mrs. Norma Brown Bell from the Citizens Advice Bureau/ RJR Basic School and Mrs. Lydia Brown-Grant, Acting Executive Director of the Citizens Advice Bureau. Seaboard Marine Jamaica
Michell Hutchinson from sponsor Seaboard Marine Jamaica who help ship the books to Jamaica every year distributed books to 124 children at Granville and Spring Mount Infant Schools in St. James.



Spirit Airlines
"Sharing our SPIRIT with Books4Kids Jamaica"! With 19 people, Spirit Airlines showed up in force for their distribution day at Green Pond Infant School and Faith Kinder Basic School in Montego Bay Tuesday 20st September. Impressively, the team sported Spirit Airlines Books4Kids T-shirts specially made for the occasion. Headed up by Sherie Bailey, the Spirit team did a fantastic job with the distribution to 252 Kindergarten children at Green Pond and 24 children at Faith Kinder Basic. 3 ½ year old Jayae, who wanted to help, stole the show handing out crayons and pencils as the initiatives youngest volunteer. Bus and driver provided by Jamaica Tours Limited.



Trident Hotel
The Books4Kids Jamaica team was joined by first year sponsors Rose Wright and Lij Keith from sponsors Trident Hotel for the distribution of Workbooks, reading books, crayons and pencils to 177 children at Port Antonio Infant School.



The Honourable Daryl Vaz, Minister without Portfolio
Books4Kids Jamaica was honoured by the participation Hon. Daryl Vaz, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation in the Office of the Prime Minister. A Member of Parliament for Western Portland, Minister Vaz handed out books to 45 three, four and five year old pre-school children at Hope Bay Disciples of Christ Early Childhood Institution (ECI) during Books4Kids Jamaica distribution day in Portland parish. With the addition of Boundbrook Infant School in Port Antonio to this year’s distribution list, more than 500 Kindergarten children in Portland will receive Workbooks, reading books, crayons and pencils from the charity this year. Car and driver Damien Gadiaru was sponsered by the Hon. Daryl Vaz.
